Children and adults who cycle, scoot or walk to school can take part in breakfast to celebrate their active travel journey. It can be a great way of involving parents and sharing information and generating enthusiasm for active travel.
Breakfasts usually include a selection of fruit, pastries and drinks. Local supermarkets often support these by donating food and supplies. Pop into your local store well in advance and make some arrangements.
I Bike Breakfasts have been supported by Tesco, Co-op and Morrisons. They have also been sponsored by school catering companies.
How can pupils help?
Pupils can help breakfasts run smoothly by helping to set up and clear away afterward.
The downloads opposite include:
- A template for a letter to parents to give them details of the event
- An example risk assessment. If your school is running this session without I Bike staff, please make sure you have a risk assessment which complies with the local authority requirements
- A lesson plan outlining the equipment and planning needed
